I began the layout plans for my BT Lightning late in 2016 and picked up the finished product in February of 2017. This is my second Beavertail Skiff, the first being a BT Vengeance. I knew first hand the quality and attention put into all Beavertail Skiffs and had an easy decision when the time came to purchase a flats boat that was well suited for my location in southern Louisiana. I chose the Lightning because it allows me to cover large distances quickly and provides the length to handle rougher water associated with crossing large open bays and the Gulf of Mexico. It also works as a great tournament red fishing machine. I fish multiple tournaments throughout the year in Louisiana and when I am on the clock, the speed of the Lightning is invaluable. Will was able to incorporate all of my requests perfectly, from the molded in live-well pickups to the electronics layout. I was very specific with the build and I was not disappointed. I went in a different direction than many before me with my build – this boat would not be polled at any time, so I opted to forgo the poling platform; however I wanted a large front casting tower to sight-fish from while running the trolling motor. Will and Liz had not built a tower of this nature before, but I sent them the basic specifications and they nailed it. The custom aluminum work was incredible; it was both functional and beautiful. The boat is simply a work of art with incredible performance numbers as I paired it with the Evinrude G2 250 HO. Fishability is excellent. Fully tournament loaded, I can fish in a foot of water which allows me access to most of the areas that I frequent here in the marshes of Louisiana. I am completely satisfied with the Lightning as it is everything it is advertised to be.
